Growth responses of seedlings under complete submergence in rice cultivars carrying both the submergence-tolerance gene SUB1A-1 and the floating genes SNORKELs

چکیده

We screened 80 Asian rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars for the presence of submergence-tolerance gene SUB1A-1 and floating genes SNORKEL1 (SK1) SNORKEL2 (SK2), found that deepwater cultivar Baisbish (BSB) submergence-tolerant Flood Resistant 13A (FR13A) both possess SK1/2. When BSB FR13A seedlings were completely submerged, spindly growth shoots was induced in but not FR13A. Submergence significantly increased transcript abundance shoots, expression level much lower than also ERF66 ERF67, transcriptional targets SUB1A-1, whereas it upregulated ERF67 shoots. These results suggest could display submergence tolerance due to low and/or under submergence.

The submergence tolerance regulator SUB1A mediates crosstalk between submergence and drought tolerance in rice.

Submergence and drought are major constraints to rice (Oryza sativa) production in rain-fed farmlands, both of which can occur sequentially during a single crop cycle. SUB1A, an ERF transcription factor found in limited rice accessions, dampens ethylene production and gibberellic acid responsiveness during submergence, economizing carbohydrate reserves and significantly prolonging endurance. He...

The submergence tolerance gene SUB1A delays leaf senescence under prolonged darkness through hormonal regulation in rice.

Leaf senescence is a natural age-dependent process that is induced prematurely by various environmental stresses. Typical alterations during leaf senescence include breakdown of chlorophyll, a shift to catabolism of energy reserves, and induction of senescence-associated genes, all of which can occur during submergence, drought, and constant darkness. Here, we evaluated the influence of the sub...

Submergence tolerance in rice requires Sub1A, an ethylene-response-factor-like gene.

Submergence of rice (Oryza sativa) by flash flooding is a major constraint to rice production in Asia. Rice cultivars vary in their capacity to tolerate complete submergence; quantitative trait loci analyses have revealed that a large portion of this variation in submergence tolerance can be explained by one locus (Sub1) on chromosome 9. Two recently published papers (Takeshi Fukao et al. and K...

Morphological and physiological responses of rice seedlings to complete submergence (flash flooding).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Reducing damage to rice seedlings caused by flash flooding will improve the productivity of rainfed lowland rice in West Africa. Accordingly, the morphological and physiological responses of different forms of rice to complete submergence were examined in field and pot experiments to identify primary causes of damage. METHODS To characterize the physiological responses, se...
